Bringing Fire to Life: Oil Painting Workshop In this immersive workshop, Elisha Enfield will guide participants through the process of painting fire in oil paint, from initial composition to final refinements. Through demonstration and hands-on practice, attendees will explore how the fluidity and transparency of oils can be used to create the illusion of glowing, dynamic flames. The session will cover composition, colour choices, atmosphere and the intuitive process of adding and removing paint to build depth and movement. With individual guidance and feedback, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with these techniques and engage with the unique challenges—and rewards—of capturing fire on canvas. The session will be structured into four key stages: 1. Drawing & Underpainting – Establishing the composition and values. 2. Surrounding Landscape – Creating contrast and atmosphere. 3. Painting the Fire – Using layering and removal techniques to build glowing flames. 4. Refinements & Final Details – Bringing the final image together. Whether you're new to oil painting or looking to refine your skills, this workshop offers a space to explore, experiment, and bring fire to life through oil paint. About Elisha Drawing from stories of fire and funerary rites, and the landscapes that hold them, Elisha Enfield’s paintings explore the macabre beauty of shared rituals that traverse joy, reverence, and loss. Weaving together memory and myth, her work reflects on how places are shaped by layers of history, revealing the fragile boundary between presence and absence—and evoking moments where the past lingers just beneath the surface. Elisha studied painting at the University of Brighton, graduating in 2011. Her recent achievements include selection for the BEEP Painting Biennial, John Ruskin Prize, and Jackson’s Art Prize. Her work is held in public and private collections worldwide. Saturday 6 September 2025 10am - 4pm with Elisha Enfield This workshop takes place at: North Yorks Art School 2-4 South Street Scarborough YO11 2BP Includes all materials, refreshments and lunch.
